Meet BD Crowell
BD Crowell creates stories, art, and videos for young readers, families, and anyone curious about how imagination takes shape.
Brian Crowell was born in Illinois and grew up in Illinois, Texas, Arizona, Kentucky, and Florida. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from Saint Leo University in 2001. Since 2018, he has lived in Arizona with his family.
Brian began drawing at an early age, first copying Charles Schulz's Snoopy before branching out into nature, animals, and people. The warmth, humor, and expressive character work of Schulz and Bill Watterson remain important influences.
Writing and illustrating as BD Crowell, he published Derrick the Dog in 2013. This site now brings together his children's fiction, digital art, Storytime with Brian read-alouds, Draw with Brian sessions, works in progress, and other creative experiments.
