Brian Crowell is a children’s author, illustrator, and lifelong creative storyteller. Born in Illinois, he grew up living in several states—Illinois, Texas, Arizona, Kentucky, and Florida—an experience that helped shape his imagination and love of diverse stories and places. He graduated from Saint Leo University in Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology.

Since 2018, Brian has lived in Arizona with his wife and their two boys. Writing and illustrating as BD Crowell, he published his first children’s book, Derrick the Dog, in June 2013. He continues expanding his library of illustrated stories and is actively creating new content for his YouTube channels Draw With Brian and Storytime With Brian.

Brian began drawing at an early age. One of his earliest inspirations was Charles Schulz’s Snoopy, whose charm and personality sparked Brian’s love for cartooning. Over the years, he broadened his focus to include nature, animals, and eventually people. His artistic style—especially in the Derrick and Max series—draws influence from Charles Schulz and Bill Watterson, blending expressive characters with warm, heartfelt storytelling.
