Taking a break today from Derrick and Max. I thought I would do another one of those fun numbers-to-drawings like we did the other day. We turned a zero into a sun, so since we've done zero, let's do one.

Draw With Brian #10 – Numbers to Drawings: 1 to Flag

Hey everyone, I'm Brian. Welcome to Draw With Brian!

Today's Drawing

All right, let's get into today's drawing.

Taking a break today from Derrick and Max. I thought I would do another one of those fun numbers-to-drawings like we did the other day. We turned a zero into a sun, so since we've done zero, let's do one.

All right, we've got a nice one. You can draw anything you like, but let's see...

I think first I'm going to make my one more like that. That looks like a one.

All right, what can we do with this?

I am thinking of turning this one into a flag. How about that? Yeah, let's do a flag.

And what can we do with our flag?

That looks good.

You know what? I think our flag is going to be planted in a hole here, like we are on a golf course. Yeah, I like that.

All right, so that's what we're going to do with our flag.

Okay, I'll zoom out a little bit.

All right, so here's our flag, and this is what we're doing with our one.

You know, I was thinking, as I was getting ready for this, I always dug it when I was a kid watching Sesame Street and they would do the other language. It's usually Spanish, right? I still remember that.

"Abrir, cerrado. Abrir, cerrado."

So, what is one in Spanish?

Uno.

Now, I realize not everybody watching this is a kid, but I don't know. I feel like this is probably geared toward kids, so that's what we're talking about here.

So, this is a nice little one. Makes sense, right? We turn it into this flag.

Now, besides a little Spanish, I also speak a little Lakota.

One in Spanish is uno.

One in Lakota is waŋží.

So that's how you say one in Lakota: waŋží.

Adding the Background

All right, let's see what we've got here.

Let's do a little bit of a background here. This will be kind of our horizon. And then maybe we've got some trees.

What, kitty?

Kitty's crying.

I think it's because I'm up, and when I'm up, she thinks everybody should be up.

Let's see...

So, flag in Spanish is la bandera.

And in Lakota, let me check my dictionary...

I think it's wapȟáha.

Wapȟáha. My mistake.

And apologies for anybody who's watching this who can actually speak Lakota well. Your pronunciation is probably much better than mine. Sorry for that.

Yeah, you're being talkative this morning.

All right, in here we have turned our one into a flag.

Coloring the Drawing

Now, you don't have to, but I'm going to color mine.

I had gone ahead and prepared a couple of different layers here.

And why do we do this?

This way, because if I was coloring on the same layer, I'd color up my black lines, right, if I got outside the lines. So by putting it on another layer and putting it at a lower layer, if I happen to get out of my lines...

Let's pick a nice green color here.

Let's see, how's that look?

See? It doesn't cover up the black.

All right, let's color this guy in.

And this is a quickie drawing. This doesn't have to be perfect. If we get outside the lines or we don't fully fill this in, it's okay. We're just doing this for fun.

All right, yeah, okay.

Now let's see. Green. We're probably going to see just a little bit of the brown dirt here.

Looks like a brown color.

Let's switch to the pen because that's a big old paintbrush.

Get that dirt in.

And then our hole itself I'd say will be black. It's dark down in that hole.

Yeah, all right.

Wapȟáha — here's our flag.

All right, and well, you know me. I am kind of a perfectionist.

I don't like this.

Ooh, wrong color.

Let's get back to our green.

Let's see...

Oh, too late, because we've already switched off that color.

All right, so now let's do this back here.

Oh, that's kind of a nice green, right? Nice dark green.

All right, let's color our background back here.

I do suffer from trying to make stuff perfect.

And you know what they say: Perfection is the enemy of done.

And we are just doing a quickie here.

So we'll quickly draw this in.

Oh yeah, what is that? How's that?

Oh, it's not bad, right?

Okay.

And I think for our flag, we're going to make our flag nice bright red.

So zoom back in.

Let's switch back to our pen.

We'll maybe pop that guy up just a little bit.

Oh yeah, I like that color red.

Whoa, what, kitty?

What's wrong, kitty?

You're not out of food. I checked.

And you're not out of water. I checked that too.

Yeah, yeah.

I don't know if the microphone's picking her up.

Boy, she's really chatty this morning.

All right, let's see.

Looks better zoomed out, doesn't it?

Fall Colors

It is the fall.

Let's give our trees back here some fall colors.

Let's see. Let's switch back to our paintbrush.

Oh, there's a nice bright green for that tree.

Maybe a little less green for this tree.

A little yellow for this tree.

Oh yeah, some nice fall colors.

Maybe a little orange.

Yeah, all right.

A little more orange.

Kind of just run through the color gamut.

We probably should have skipped around a little bit.

As it is, this is kind of like our color swatch here, right? Moving from one to the next, green over to red.

But all right, I like it.

And then I think we're going to have a nice little bit of blue sky up here.

Ooh, I like that blue.

Yes indeed.

And you could be drawing on anything, right? You don't have to be on a tablet.

You could be on paper.

I'm drawing on an XP-Pen Artist 22.

But before that, I had one of those little tablets that sat on your desk with no screen.

I did my whole first book off one of those.

So whatever you have, right?

And you might have colored pencils.

But yeah, I think that's good.

It's a nice little fun, quickie drawing.

Look, under 10 minutes here. Colored and everything.
