Numbers to Drawings — 0 to Sun
Welcome back to Draw with Brian.
In this episode, we begin a fun sub-series: Numbers to Drawings.
Today we take the number 0 and turn it into a simple, happy sun. This quick drawing is perfect for beginners, young artists, or anyone who wants a creative warm-up exercise.
No reference images — just imagination.

Hi everyone, welcome back to Draw with Brian. I’m Brian.
Today I thought we could do something quick and fun — just finish one of the drawings for the next Derrick and Max book. I thought we’d just have a little fun today. No reference images — just imagination.
If you'd like to draw along with me, grab your stylus, pencil, pen, crayon, whatever you've got — paper too — and let’s get into it.
So I saw this fun little exercise where you take just a number and turn it into something else.
What better place to start than zero, right?
Zero is easy.
All right — here’s our zero.
Now what could we do with this? What could we turn it into? Do you have your picture in mind?
Feel free to draw what I’m going to draw — or come up with your own idea.
Let’s go.
I think I want to do something simple here.
How about we turn it into a sun?
We’ll draw some dots around here — just as reference points to keep everything spaced out evenly.
Now let’s connect those and give ourselves some rays.
And there we go — a nice sun.
Let’s make him a happy sun.
We’ll give him a big smile.
And since he’s bright — I think he needs some sunglasses.
Shade those in.
And just like that, we’ve got a quick happy sun.
Should we color him in?
Yeah, let’s color him in. Let’s have some fun.
I think our sun will be yellow. Or maybe even a little more orange.
It’s our world — we can do whatever we want. We could make him green if we wanted to.
But I like that nice warm orange-yellow.
And if we get out of the lines, that’s okay. That just means the glow is even brighter and more widespread than we drew.
Now let’s add a couple of clouds up here — some happy clouds to go along with our sun.
Just a little indication of sky so he’s not floating up there all by himself.
And there we have it — a happy little sun and a happy sky.
Anybody should be able to do this, regardless of your drawing level.
All right — I think we’ll call this one done.
Let’s sign it.
We’re still in 2025 — good.
Let’s save it.
